UK 600-Mile Rainstorm: When Will It Arrive and Which Counties Will Escape It?

The Met Office says that on Sunday, August 17, the east of the UK will be cloudier while the west will see brighter weather. Low clouds will slowly clear in the east but may stay near North Sea coasts. Most other areas will enjoy sunshine, though skies could look a little hazy. The far southwest will have strong winds. It will feel warm in the sun but cooler where clouds remain.

Tonight’s forecast: The west will have clear skies, while the east and central areas may get light drizzle as low cloud returns. The southwest will see windy conditions, especially around the Moors.

Looking ahead to the August Bank Holiday weekend, the Met Office warns that Atlantic weather systems could move across the UK, mainly in the north and west. This could bring wetter and windier conditions, though the forecast is still uncertain.

When will the 600-mile rainstorm hit?

The storm is expected to begin on August 27, hitting southern Scotland and the East Midlands the hardest.

But some counties may avoid the rain altogether. According to weather maps from WXC Charts, the storm is not expected to affect:

  • Aberdeenshire

  • Somerset

  • Middlesex

  • Kent

  • Essex

  • Suffolk

  • Norfolk

  • Cambridgeshire

Just a few days ago, the Met Office issued yellow thunderstorm warnings for these same areas.
