7 of the Best Films to Watch This February

February brings a wide mix of exciting films. There are horror comedies, emotional dramas, romantic stories, animation, and big ideas about the future. From a fresh take on a famous novel to a strange sci-fi thriller, here are seven films worth watching this month.

1. Cold Storage

Cold Storage is a horror comedy based on a novel written by David Koepp in 2019. Koepp is one of Hollywood’s most famous screenwriters. He has worked on big films such as Mission: Impossible, Spider-Man, War of the Worlds, and several recent thrillers directed by Steven Soderbergh.

The story is set in a self-storage facility. Two young security guards, played by Joe Keery and Georgina Campbell, discover a dangerous secret hidden underground. Long ago, the place was part of a military base. A deadly mutant fungus was stored there and kept frozen so it could not spread.

Because the Earth is getting warmer, the fungus wakes up. It breaks out of the ground and turns people into zombie-like creatures. The situation quickly becomes terrifying and messy. Liam Neeson plays a military expert who may be the only one who can stop the disaster.

The film mixes horror, comedy, and chaos, making it a fun but scary watch.

Release dates:
UK & Ireland: 6 February
US & Canada: 13 February

2. The President’s Cake

The President’s Cake is a powerful drama set in Iraq in 1997. It takes place during the rule of Saddam Hussein. The country is suffering because of international sanctions, and many people are very poor.

A nine-year-old girl named Lamia is told she must bake a cake for the president’s birthday celebration at her school. Even though people do not want to celebrate, they have no choice. Lamia and her grandmother do not have enough money to buy simple ingredients like eggs, sugar, and flour.

They travel to the city to try to find what they need. During the trip, they get separated, and Lamia must survive on her own. She is joined only by her pet rooster.

Written and directed by Hasan Hadi, this film shows life through the eyes of a child living under a harsh and controlling system. The story is emotional, sad, and very human. Critics have praised it as a strong and impressive first film.

Release dates:
US & Spain: 6 February
UK & Ireland: 13 February

3. Pillion

Pillion is a romantic comedy drama with an unusual story. The film stars Harry Melling as Colin, a shy man who works as a parking attendant. His social life is very quiet, and he spends his free time singing in a music group with his father.

Colin’s life changes when he meets Ray, played by Alexander Skarsgård. Ray is confident, attractive, and the leader of a motorcycle gang. The two begin an intense relationship that is both exciting and confusing for Colin.

As the relationship grows, Colin struggles to understand whether he is becoming more free or being controlled. The film explores love, power, grief, and belonging in a bold and honest way.

Although it is very direct and adult, critics say the film is also gentle and emotional underneath. It offers a new kind of love story that challenges traditional ideas.

Release dates:
US & Sweden: 6 February
Brazil: 12 February
Australia: 19 February

4. “Wuthering Heights”

Director Emerald Fennell is known for stylish and modern films like Promising Young Woman and Saltburn. When she announced she would adapt Emily Brontë’s classic novel Wuthering Heights, many people were unsure.

Some questioned her style, the casting of Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, and even the decision to put the film’s title in quotation marks. Fennell explained that this shows the film is her personal interpretation, not a direct copy of the book.

As trailers were released, opinions began to change. The film looks dramatic, emotional, and intense. Fennell has said she has loved the novel since she was 14 and wanted to capture how it made her feel at that age.

This version focuses on strong emotions, passion, and desire, offering a bold and modern take on a famous story.

Release dates:
International cinemas: 11–13 February

5. GOAT

GOAT is an animated film with a clever idea. The title comes from the phrase “Greatest Of All Time,” often used in sports. In this case, the hero really is a goat.

The story follows Will, a teenage goat who dreams of becoming a professional roarball player. Roarball is like basketball in a world where animals talk and live like humans.

Will joins a team, but there is a problem. He is much smaller than his teammates, who include a panther, a rhino, a giraffe, and an ostrich. Despite this, Will refuses to give up.

The film is produced by basketball star Stephen Curry, who also understands what it’s like to be underestimated. The story is about believing in yourself and cheering for the underdog.

Release dates:
International cinemas: 11–13 February

6. Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die

Director Gore Verbinski returns with this strange and fun sci-fi thriller. After many years without a successful cinema release, he comes back with a story full of action and humour.

Sam Rockwell stars as a man from the near future who travels back in time to save humanity from a dangerous artificial intelligence. He appears in a diner in Los Angeles and tries to convince ordinary people to help him.

The problem is that his mission has failed many times before. Each time it fails, he travels back again to try something new. The film mixes comedy, science fiction, and big questions about technology.

Critics say it is entertaining, clever, and full of energy.

Release dates:
US: 13 February
UK & Ireland: 20 February

7. How to Make a Killing

How to Make a Killing is inspired by the classic British film Kind Hearts and Coronets from 1949. In that film, a poor man kills his wealthy relatives to inherit their fortune.

This modern version stars Glen Powell as Becket Redfellow. Like the original story, Becket comes from a family that rejected him. After his mother dies, he realises he could become very rich if certain family members disappear.

This time, the setting is modern America, and the family is powerful and rich, similar to characters from Succession. Ed Harris, Topher Grace, and Margaret Qualley also star.

The film mixes dark humour, greed, and ambition, asking how far someone will go for money.
