From Personal Struggle to Purpose
We started the interview by asking, “What inspired you to focus on gut health and menopause?”
Charlotte Cheetham replied, “Let me introduce myself first I’m Charlotte, a Gut Health Coach who came to this work through my own struggles. Like many women, I hit a wall during menopause. I was bloated, exhausted, and frustrated, but I didn’t know why. Things took a scary turn when I ended up in hospital with a gut infection. That experience shook me. I had always considered myself quite healthy, but clearly, something was missing. So, I started researching, experimenting, and retraining. I learned just how connected gut health is to everything our mood, hormones, energy, and even how we cope with stress. That journey not only changed my life, it gave me a mission: to help other women avoid the pain I went through. Today, I help perimenopausal women heal their guts, regain energy, and feel like themselves again without restrictive diets or quick fixes.”
A Personalised Path to Healing
The UK Times: How does your 16-week Gut Health Programme differ from general wellness advice?
Charlotte Cheetham replied, “What makes my programme different is that it’s completely personalised. There’s no one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to gut health especially for women going through perimenopause. My 16-week programme goes beyond giving diet tips or generic meal plans. We dig deep into your lifestyle, stress levels, food sensitivities, sleep patterns, and hormonal shifts. Every session is tailored to you. I use tools backed by science to assess your symptoms and create a step-by-step plan that evolves as your body does. Many of my clients have tried everything diets, pills, cutting out foods yet nothing worked long-term. This programme is designed to empower you, not overwhelm you. Together, we build habits, ease stress, and improve your relationship with food and your body. It’s about transformation, not restriction. By the end of the journey, most women not only feel better they finally understand what their body needs.”
Uncovering the Gut-Hormone Link
The UK Times: Why is gut health especially important during menopause?
Charlotte Cheetham replied, “During menopause, our bodies go through enormous hormonal changes and one of the first places that shows up is in the gut. Women suddenly start experiencing bloating, constipation, or IBS-like symptoms, and they don’t always link it to hormonal shifts. But the gut and hormones are deeply connected. Estrogen, for example, influences how our gut functions and how we process nutrients. When hormone levels drop, the gut microbiome can become imbalanced, leading to inflammation, digestive issues, and even brain fog or low mood. By improving gut health, we can actually balance some of these symptoms and feel more in control. I’ve seen women go from fatigued and bloated to energized and clear-headed just by adjusting their diet and daily habits. Gut health is not just a digestive issue it’s the foundation for managing menopause with more ease, comfort, and confidence.”
Stress and the Gut
The UK Times: What role does stress play in gut health and how do you address it?
Charlotte Cheetham replied, “Stress is huge when it comes to gut health yet it’s so often overlooked. For years, I didn’t realise how much my stress was making my symptoms worse. I was raising three kids, moving constantly as a military wife, working full-time, and silently battling bloating, gut pain, and fatigue. What I’ve learned is that stress triggers the “fight or flight” response, which shuts down digestion and increases gut inflammation. That’s why in my coaching, we focus just as much on mindset and emotional wellbeing as we do on nutrition. I bring in techniques from NLP, mindfulness, and lifestyle coaching to help women reduce stress in ways that actually work. It’s not about meditating for an hour a day it’s about simple tools that fit into busy lives. When women learn how to manage stress and nourish their gut, real healing begins.”
The Healthy Eating Myth
lastly we asked, “What’s one common myth about gut health that you wish more women knew the truth about?”
“The biggest myth I hear is: “I’m eating healthy, so I should feel fine.” But the truth is what’s healthy for one person might be completely wrong for another. I’ve had clients who were eating all the ‘right’ things whole grains, legumes, cruciferous vegetables yet they were constantly bloated and miserable. That’s because gut health is personal. One woman’s superfood could be another’s trigger. This is why personalised gut restoration is so powerful. Instead of following generic diets, we look at your body, your symptoms, your history, and your needs. We make changes based on you, not trends. It’s so freeing when women realise they don’t have to follow every new fad. They can trust their body again. That’s what I want all women to know there’s no universal answer, but with the right support, you can find what works for you.” Charlotte Cheetham concluded
