From Oman to Italy to the U.S., Sahar’s story is a beautiful fusion of heritage, creativity, and love.
A Journey Rooted in Culture
We started the interview by asking, “You have had an achievement-filled life. Can you tell us about your early life?”
Sahar Al Aufi replied, “Thank you for that kind introduction. My early life was a blend of tradition, family, and creativity. I was born and raised in Oman, surrounded by stunning landscapes and a culture rich in artistry. From a young age, I was fascinated by traditional Omani clothing, the colors, the embroidery, and the stories behind every design. My family always supported my creative side, and I knew early on that I wanted to tell stories through fashion. That passion stayed with me through school and beyond. Even as I studied and explored different paths, I found myself drawn back to design. Every step of the way, I carried a piece of home with me, our heritage, our resilience, and our beauty. Those roots shaped who I am and continue to influence every piece I create today. It’s been a journey of growth, creativity, and cultural pride.”
A Celebration of Omani Beauty & Resilience
The UK Times: What inspired the creation of the “Desert Rose” collection, and what message did you aim to convey through it?
Sahar Al Aufi replied, “The “Desert Rose” collection was born from a place of deep emotion and cultural appreciation. I was inspired by the desert rose flower so delicate, yet it grows in some of the harshest conditions. It reminded me of the Omani woman: graceful, powerful, and deeply rooted. Through this collection, I wanted to celebrate that quiet strength. Every design was created to reflect resilience, elegance, and a modern take on our cultural essence. I wanted to show that traditional beauty can evolve, that our heritage can walk confidently on global runways. The collection also aimed to connect emotionally with the audience and telling a story of survival, grace, and blooming where you are planted. It was more than just fashion; it was a message of pride, identity, and empowerment, both for women and for the rich culture we come from. “Desert Rose” is a tribute to inner strength wrapped in beauty.”
Embracing Nature’s Majesty
The UK Times: The Desert Rose Fashion Show was held in Bidiya’s desert landscape. How did that setting impact the overall experience?
Sahar Al Aufi replied, “The desert setting in Bidiya added a magical touch to the entire fashion show; it was like the collection came home. There’s something incredibly powerful about showcasing fashion in such a raw, untouched landscape. The golden sands, the endless horizon, and the natural light at sunset created a surreal atmosphere. It felt like every element aligned perfectly to elevate the meaning behind “Desert Rose.” The models walking on sand, the wind moving the fabrics, it brought a sense of life to the clothes that couldn’t be captured indoors. It also highlighted the contrast we were trying to convey: delicate beauty in a powerful, vast environment. Guests were completely immersed in the setting, and it allowed them to experience the story behind the designs in a much deeper way. It turned a fashion show into a moment one that honored nature, culture, and the soul of the collection.”
Blending Tradition with Innovation
The UK Times: As a designer and entrepreneur, how do you balance modern global fashion trends with Omani heritage?
Sahar Al Aufi replied, “Balancing modern fashion with Omani heritage is something I take very seriously; it’s at the heart of my creative process. I constantly explore international trends, silhouettes, and techniques, but I always begin my design journey by asking, “How can I tell our story through this?” As Omani culture is incredibly rich our embroidery, traditional patterns, and color schemes hold so much meaning. Instead of leaving those behind, I reinterpret them in a way that fits today’s world. It’s about giving our cultural elements a new language, one that resonates globally but remains authentic. I also work closely with local artisans because their techniques bring unmatched depth and soul to each piece. At the end of the day, fashion is about identity, and I believe we can move forward while still honoring where we came from. That harmony between old and new is what makes each design truly special.”
Crafting Desert Elegance
The UK Times: Tell us about the team behind the Desert Rose Fashion Show. What was the collaboration like?
Sahar Al Aufi replied, “The Desert Rose Fashion Show would not have been possible without the amazing team behind it. I was lucky to work with such talented, passionate individuals like stylists, models, set designers, photographers, event planners, and cultural advisors. Everyone brought their own vision, creativity, and dedication to the table. It was a beautiful blend of collaboration and trust. We all shared a common goal: to tell a powerful story through fashion in a way that honored our heritage. The energy was electric late nights, intense planning, and endless rehearsals, but it was all worth it. The show came together because everyone believed in the concept, and we worked as one unit to make it happen. It felt more like a creative family than a production team. That unity and shared purpose are what brought “Desert Rose” to life and made it such an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.”
Exploring Innovation
The UK Times: Your brand already has an international presence in the US, Italy, and Oman. How does the Desert Rose collection reflect a new creative direction within your global business?
Sahar Al Aufi replied, “Yes, we are proud to be operating internationally, with strong roots in Oman and expanding footprints in the US and Italy. The Desert Rose collection marked a bold, artistic departure from our usual runway approach; it was about creating an immersive experience, not just a showcase. Designing and launching it in the heart of Oman’s desert landscape gave it an authenticity that connected deeply with our roots while resonating globally. This collection was a tribute to resilience and elegance, crafted in a way that blended tradition with innovation. It was an emotional and visual journey that highlighted our ability to evolve creatively while staying true to our identity. As our business grows internationally, we want to bring stories like Desert Rose to the global stage unique narratives that celebrate culture, craftsmanship, and meaningful fashion. It’s the beginning of a new direction for our brand, and we’re excited for what’s to come.”
